We welcome our Guests with an unusual history - the tenement house in which the hotel is located dates back to 1938, and its first two owners were Count Adam Potocki - heir to an art collection, and the press magnate Marian Dąbrowski - owner of the most popular inter-war daily newspaper, the Ilustrowany Kuryer Codzienny. References to these extraordinary figures and their times can be found at every turn. Tasteful interiors in the art déco style, taking us back to the inter-war period, are only a part of the story we want to present.
Garamond, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is a four-star, intimate boutique hotel where guests will feel authenticity and unique character. It is a place where history and the present are combined, where art, press and literature together create an extraordinary atmosphere.
The 'Ilustrowany Kuryer Codzienny' was established in 1910 in Kraków and was the first national daily newspaper. It soon also became the most popular Polish daily newspaper, and its success encouraged Marian Dąbrowski to establish a whole press concern under the same name.
Construction of the building at 37 St. Mark Street began in 1938. The founder was Count Adam Władysław Potocki. A year later the building was bought from him by Marian Dabrowski, who, however, left Poland just before the outbreak of war.
At the age of 32, he established the 'Ilustrowany Kuryer Codzienny', thanks to which he became one of the richest and most influential people not only in Krakow, but in the whole of Poland at that time. A devotee of gambling and luxury cars, he was passionate about sport - he organised an annual run around the Planty and cycling races. He belonged to the famous 'Round Table Club' - tthe creme de la creme of Krakow's inteligentsia meeting in the cafe of the 'Grand' hotel. This was also where he ate his daily 'dinner' - black coffee and juice squeezed from ten oranges. He was undoubtedly an unusual, colourful and eccentric character.
From personal interactions to project details, Tribute Portfolio is all about delivering services that are approachable and authentic. In doing so, the brand adds a truly memorable touch within the independent hotel experience. Our restaurant features an authentic turntable, and our guests will be able to decide for themselves what kind of music they spend their evening listening to thanks to our numerous collection of turntable records.
Bearing in mind the comfort of our guests and the growing interest in such facilities, our hotel welcomes only adult guests. Our guests will be able to spend time iin peace and quiet, soaking up the atmosphere of Krakow's Old Town.
